Empowering Delta's Remote Workforce
MacStadium provides the Mac desktop experience global users want and need, with the security of remote access to a cloud-hosted device. With MacStadium, you can provide new, temporary, or contract employees instant access to macOS without purchasing or shipping expensive hardware that may never be returned, all while keeping your data secure with the right level of access based on each employee's location, device, or job requirements.
Overview
Delta Air Lines maintains offshore development teams focused on creating and maintaining their critical iOS applications. These teams require robust Mac infrastructure to ensure security, efficiency, and seamless collaboration across geographically dispersed locations.
Challenge
Historically, Delta provided individual MacBooks to each developer, creating significant logistical challenges and security vulnerabilities. Managing hardware across multiple international regions, combined with rapidly changing team compositions, increased operational complexity and costs. Delta sought a solution that would provide secure, easily managed, and remotely accessible Mac environments to enhance their global workforce productivity.
MacStadium's Solution
Delta partnered with MacStadium and its enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) providers to shift from individually-assigned MacBooks to a fully virtualized desktop solution. This implementation initially migrated machines for 50 developers, allowing them secure remote access to virtual Mac desktops hosted by MacStadium.
Leveraging MacStadium's enterprise-grade VDI infrastructure, Delta achieved instant provisioning and deprovisioning of virtual Mac desktops. This greatly simplified managing user access and resources, improving flexibility and responsiveness to the dynamic nature of their global developer workforce.
Results
With MacStadium’s enterprise VDI solution, Delta Air Lines realized significant improvements:
- Immediate Provisioning: Delta can now rapidly provision or deprovision access for developers, adapting swiftly to team changes.
- Enhanced Security: Centralizing Mac infrastructure within MacStadium’s secure facilities significantly improved security and compliance.
- Operational Efficiency: Transitioning to virtual desktops reduced logistical challenges related to global hardware distribution and maintenance.
This successful implementation provides Delta with a scalable blueprint for expansion across the enterprise, especially as global trade complexities and tariffs continue to complicate international hardware management and distribution.
